How The LEED System Works
The LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) rating system establishes a uniform standard of measurement by awarding credit points for various building design and construction measures seen as contributing to the energy efficiency and environmental compatibility of a building.
LEED guidelines indicate how points are accumulated for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selection and indoor environmental quality.
Total credits of 26 points or more out of a total possible of 69 points qualifies the building for USGBC certification as a “green” building. Those with more credit points are designated as silver (33-38 points), gold (39-51 points) or platinum (52-69 points).
Contributions Of Building Components
Given that the LEED system emphasizes evaluating projects as a whole, building components do not, in and of themselves, add credit points to a project. They can, however, help qualify the project for LEED certification and manufacturers can help qualify projects in which their products are used.

How Our Materials Use Recycled Content
LEED guidelines award points for the use of materials with recycled content “such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the post industrial content constitutes at least 5% of the total value of the material for the project.” Higher percentages help add more points.How Points Are Calculated

Dynamic purchases steel that is manufactured from an EAF mill (electric arc furnace). The mill uses on average a 50.6% recycled post-consumer and 33.3% post-industrial materials and the balance being primary ore. The steel overall content percentage for specific models can vary greatly depending on size of our predominantly aluminum products.Why We Can’t Use Post-Consumer Aluminum
Recycling of post-industrial aluminum is easier than recycling of post-consumer materials, due to the latter’s potential for alloy contamination that can affect its structural properties and ability to achieve acceptable finish quality. Please note that none of the aluminum we use ends up in a landfill. For LEED projects that you want to turn into Leed certified spaces, we can help:- We recycle everything—aluminum scraps, filings, and, thanks to a specialized filtration system in our shop vacuums, even dust.
- Our doors are fully recyclable when they’re no longer needed.
- We use mostly recycled materials (like cardboard and paper) in our door packaging – no styrofoam.
- We’ve developed innovative designs that use less materials and still manage to be a stronger, better door.
